Florida Hospital Altamonte recently announced the opening of the only bariatric surgery center in Seminole County. The goal of the hospital’s Center for Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery is to help obese patients lose weight. The hospital combines minimally invasive procedures with a full suite of diet, nutrition and support services to make surgery a small, low-stress part of the patient’s journey to better health.

The center’s medical director, Dr. Atif Iqbal, joins the surgical staff at Florida Hospital Altamonte following a senior fellowship in the division of minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of Nebraska. As the only bariatric surgeon in Seminole County, Iqbal is an expert in the three major types of weight-reduction surgery including gastric bypass surgery, Lap- Band and sleeve gastrectomy. A team of specialists and Iqbal work with each patient to choose the option that is best for them and develop a health plan for transitioning following the procedure.
